One Minute Portraits are an ongoing, multi-year video project. Subjects sit for a minute-long, static video shot. Then, separately, subjects are asked questions adapted from the Proust Questionnaire. The video and audio are then combined. Through this simple process, I have witnessed over and over how something personal and sincere is revealed. These portraits were the result of a conversation between myself and another Photographer and friend, Alex Mitroff. In 2013, floating on a ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Mitroff and I were fascinated and inspired by a similar project undertaken by Photographer Chase Jarvis. Alex and I wondered..."How does one take that concept to the next level?" Just a few hours (and a few drinks) later we had our answer. I've been filming people ever since. This year, 2018, marks the 5 year anniversary of The One Minute Portrait. In celebration of this, I have gone back and re-shot my subjects from 2013, and the results are as fascinating as ever. I hope you enjoy these portraits, and all the portraits to come.
